For its special variants, see Nazar Beetle, Hel Beetle, Mummy Beetle, or Pharaoh Beetle.

The Beetle is a mob in florr.io. They are a fairly standard mob that deals high damage on contact. They are fast and aggressive, but they turn quite slow.

Appearance[]

A purple oval with a dark purple outline. It has a slightly curved stripe going down the middle from head to back, not quite reaching both sides. There are six dots (three on each side) surrounding the stripe. The stripe and dots are also dark purple.

On its head, there are two pincers which are crescent shaped ending in a rounded tip. They are pointed slightly toward each other. Only about half the crescent shows. When aggressive, they move toward each other and back out again repeatedly.

Beetles spawned from Eggs are yellow.

Asset Change[]

For a short amount of time, Beetles were called Buttles, along with that, they had a butt on their back.

  • Beetles' asset was changed on 12/26/24, then changed back at around 12/30/24.

Stats & Behavior[]

Behavior: When passive, wanders around randomly, moving a few tiles forward before stopping and changing directions.

Upon a flower or friendly mob entering a medium range around it or being attacked, it becomes aggressive. Beetles spawned from Eggs are provoked by nearby mobs and hostile flowers.

Strategy[]

  • After the 2023-01-21 update, beetles move faster than players. If the beetles chasing a player are of lower rarities than the player's petals, it is possible to kill them. However, if one is of the same rarity or above, it is imperative to use petals that can slow them down or knock them back, e.g. Pincer or Web. Pincer is sufficient even when a player is chased by multiple beetles of the same rarity or above, as one slowed down beetle will slow the rest down.
    • A single Bubble will also work.
  • A single, high-rarity Beetle is best dealt with using a Pincer and a DPS build, but swarms of weaker Beetles warrant Webs, and perhaps also Pollen. Remember they also are usually accompanied by Scorpions, which can use their missiles to force you into the Beetle(s).
  • Beetles are capable of dealing high damage. One beetle is usually not a problem, but they can be if multiple are encountered at once or are with other mobs. Contact with them deals heavy damage.
    • Beetles can tank the damage from more dangerous Scorpions that deal poison damage, making them extremely dangerous if both are encountered simultaneously.
  • Despite being fast, it takes around 20-30 seconds for a Beetle to outrun a player from an average distance, meaning stalling petals (Web, Pincer, etc.) can be very helpful in defeating or escaping a beetle.
    • If you are using the Web, be in defensive position in case it draws close, as going in attacking position will throw the petal into an unpredictable direction and possibly missing the beetle.
  • Try to take out beetles before they become a threat.
  • Take advantage of Cacti and Desert Centipedes to impede beetles' movement. This works especially well with rarer beetles due to their larger hitbox.
  • Beetles turn slowly, so it helps sometimes to move in a circle around it, especially with more mobs around that you don't want to run into. You may need Powder and several Bubbles to do that.
  • Beetle Eggs of one rarity higher with the Summoner Talent can also work against the Beetle.

Trivia[]

  • Along with the Cactus and Shiny Ladybug, it is one of the only mobs in desert which originated from legacy florr.io. The remainder are from new florr.io.
  • Beetles used to drop Talisman and Ankhs.
  • The Epic version looks like the Massive Beetle from legacy florr.io. It has 18 times higher health stats though.
  • Beetles used to chase in straight lines instead of turning. They also used to be slower than the current ones.
  • On 26th December 2024, Beetles used to be temporarily replaced with Buttles, which were Beetles but had butts on the back. This also applied to Hel Beetles.
    • This was reverted a few days later.
    • They also dropped Poo during that time.
  • So far the Beetle has the most variants having 10. Currently they are Normal, Hel, Nazar, Undead, Pharaoh, Ladybug, Dark Ladybug, Shiny Ladybug, Firefly, and the Magic Firefly.
