Bur is a petal from florr.io. Its function consists of temporarily decreasing the Armor statistic of the affected mob. The Armor decreased can also go beyond zero, letting your other petals deal even more damage to the affected mob. Bur is dropped by Mantises.

Appearance[]

Bur consists of a small petal, with a blood red color with dark red outlines. The petal's shape is similar to Lightning, however, said petal is light blue/cyan, the spikes on it have a pointy format and it has 10 sides, while Bur is red/crimson, its "spikes" are actually semi-circles and there are twelve semi-circles.

Once Bur hits an enemy, it will deal its base damage and then inflict an effect on the enemy called Armor Debuff. This effect decreases the Armor statistic of the enemy by the listed number. For a comparison, Ultra Leafbug has 7,873.2 Armor, and Ultra Bur debuffs 1,093.5 Armor, which means Ultra Leafbug will have 6,779.7 Armor remaining after being debuffed. If the Armor debuffed is more than the Armor value, then the Armor is able to wander into negative values, and, instead of the Armor subtracting damage by its value, it will be a double negative: the Armor will begin adding damage to every hit on the mob (e.g. if a mob has a -200 Armor value due to Bur's effects and Common Basic which has 10 damage hits the debuffed mob, the final damage would be 10-(-200), which is 10+200, and, finally, 210 damage that the mob suffers from Common Basic). This effect can't be stacked and only lasts for 3 seconds.

Strategies[]

  • Bur should be used when the Armor stat of any given mob is giving major trouble to you, specially when the mob's rarity is one higher than your max petal rarity, the mob has a strong Armor stat itself and you're using low damage petals such as Light, Rice or Sand (since each individual petal of those will deal a low amount of damage with each hit). As such, Bur is usually a complimentary petal, used in builds like Deathwheel and its variants, where each individual petal will deal low damage, but together, they'll deal a very high amount of DPS with Bur (to reduce Armor), one-two Fasters (which increase your petal orbit speed, further increasing DPS), many Light/Sand petals (main damage petals), and other petals used in variations. Bur can be used with less efficiency in certain other builds, but Bur's main synergy is on Deathwheel and its variants, against mainly certain mobs of the Mythic+ rarity. Rice benefits greatly from this petal, with Burs of tiers above the one of the Rices being used being able to make them deal twice their DPS.
  • Bur might not work well during farming on certain occasions. For example, against Jellyfish, one might want to bring a lot of healing petals plus ranged petals to take multiple of them safely, plus they are very weak even when Bur wasn't used yet against them. Some petals also may be better than Bur in some cases, for example Bone, Heavy and/or Iris, as you might just seek the damage with the mob's Armor rather than wasting the slot on a Bur just for some Armor reduction.
  • Usually, Bur strategies are only used when both the petal and the mob are found at Mythic+ rarity or higher, with the petal being of at least one rarity below the mob's own rarity, as most mobs have low Armor statistics, and Bur can easily let your other petals deal extra damage to them. The extra damage is usually slightly less than or slightly more than double damage, but it can go as near as triple the damage of the original petal.
  • The Armor debuff caused from Bur is only 3 seconds, which is a pretty short duration. You either have to work with only 3 seconds of the debuff, or hit it multiple times in order to effectively use Bur.
  • Bur should not be considered with petals which inflict a poisonous effect (such as Grapes or Iris) or discharge lightning (Battery and Lightning). Poison damage and lightning damage bypass the affected mob's Armor stats, making Bur redundant and useless in those cases.
  • Bur became slightly more relevant after all mobs received an Armor statistic each, while buffing the Armor of the only mob who had it previously (Leafbug).
    • Conversely, Claw's bonus hits and Dice's critical hits can benefit from Bur's debuff, letting them deal even more damage at once to affected mobs.

Garden

  • Bur and its main synergy are pretty good in Garden as, although none of the mobs here have particularly high Armor, it can help you deal more damage at once to them, especially when fighting Ultra+ mobs, by letting your petals deal slightly less than (or more than) double damage (and even triple damage under the right conditions).
  • With Rice and Yin Yang, Bur can help defeating Ultra Rock mobs pretty fast. Killing Rock mobs is the most value Bur can provide against a Garden mob at once.
  • As for the other mobs, they are weak in both Armor stat and general HP and damage stats. While Bur can bring extra damage against them, it's usually redundant to do so, with other petals serving better for the job.

Desert

  • Strategies applied to fight Rock mobs in Garden can similarly be applied when fighting Cactus mobs in Desert. Beware of your surroundings, as something might push you into the Cactus that you're killing, resulting in your death since Cacti deal 3.5x the amount of damage as a Rock on any given rarity.
  • Other mobs, similarly to Garden, don't have more beneficial interactions for Bur, which means you can either use it simply to get more damage at once or use Armor-piercing petals for a better choice.

Ocean

  • Shell mob and Bubble are the only mob alongside the Leafbug who has a higher Armor stat than any other mob in the game. Bur is extremely useful for fighting Shell mobs, especially if you're using a Deathwheel or other builds with petals that deal low damage individually, which normally will deal even lower damage to the Shell mob (or even don't hurt it at all).
  • Bubble mob's Armor stat recently got buffed in order to avoid greeding. This affects specially deathwheels, but pretty much any build in general when combined with Bubble mob's damage cap limit. This means that Bur is very beneficial when farming Bubbles or even Airs.
  • Using this against Starfish mobs, specially high rarity ones, will increase damage dealt to them, which helps dealing with their quick health regeneration. Obviously, when doing that, use this in tandem with Dandelion, since higher rarity Starfish may still outheal your damage output.
  • Other interactions with the usage of Bur in your build are more generic and similar to what one can observe in Garden and Desert, but take in mind that extra damage outputs may help you killing mobs like Leech with more efficiency, letting you work around their special traits.

Jungle

  • Bur's first major counter was Leafbug, as it was the only mob with Armor before a certain update. Now, even with other mobs having Armor as well, Leafbug still has the most amount of Armor (only rivaled by the Shell mob) which Bur can help against. It should not be used against Super Leafbugs as their Armor statistic is far too high for Bur's debuff to make any difference, unless it's a Unique Bur.
  • Once again, other interactions involving Bur are generic and are similar to interactions found in previous zones, not having many benefits or downsides.

Obtaining[]

  • As the game makes clear, Bur is dropped by Mantises, which really helps fighting against Leafbugs and Shell mobs. Be on the lookout for any Mantises around, keep dodging their pea projectiles, get as close as possible to the mob and loot any Bur drops.
    • If the Mantis is alone, then you're good to fight it close-ranged. Its projectiles probably won't do much damage if you're a bit advanced. However, if it comes with a Wasp, be sure to engage in a ranged combat with Missiles or Wings, to not risk getting hit by both of the mobs.
  • The oval area surrounding the pond has a decently high concentration of Legendary Mantises, just like the area to the right of the pond. Use these areas to farm Burs of a decently high rarity if you struggle to fight in Mythic+ areas.

Hel

PvE[]

  • Bur is nearly useless in Hel, as all mobs are either quick, tough, ranged or other factors benefit them over Bur. One should consider swapping the petal for something more competitively viable, like Stinger.
  • The best value that Bur could bring to you are when killing Hel Beetles and Hel Spiders faster than average, which decreases the chances of you getting heavily damaged by them.

PvP: Using[]

  • Bur is considered the most useless petal against other players, for a simple reason: PvP is a unique environment because you are not seeking theoretical damage, but rather, just dealing damage. Players don't even have any Armor to begin with. Therefore, instead of lowering a player's Armor (making the Armor negative) with Bur to try to deal more damage later on, it's better to simply not use Bur at all and do the most damage you can at once with glass petals like Stinger or poisonous ones like Iris.
  • High-health petals should often perform way better than Bur, as they can defend against greatly damaging petals, as well as endure more against direct flower fight, letting the petal multi-hit the flower for a good damage output.
  • Even if Bur is the worst PvP petal ever, strategies surrounding it are more or less just aiming to deal extra damage like your average mob, while this has more advantages than disadvantages.
  • Bur can be used to punish Root (as it gives Armor to its user), though nothing much is gained from this interaction, and it's often better to just use normal damaging petals instead. Also, do not use this against Bone, as although the petal has an Armor stat itself, petals do not get affected by any status effects, including Armor debuffs.

PvP: Against[]

  • As presented above, Bur users are pretty much asking to die, as Bur performs very badly in PvP and pretty much everywhere else. As such, you can kill a Bur user without having a lot of trouble, and even if the debuff leads to you suffering way more damage, a single Bur hit will only debuff your Armor for 3 seconds, meaning that you just need to wait 3 seconds after you've been hit by this petal in order to normally fight it again.
  • You can directly target Bur in order to create a hole in the user's defenses and directly attack the flower to deal a lot of damage to them at once. Be careful about other potentially dangerous petals that may surround Bur, because it could backfire on you.
  • Bur users can punish you if you're using Root, but generally neither of them make significant changes during PvP, so this scenario is highly unlikely. Even if that happens, usually the other petals will end up making the difference instead of Bur and Root.

Ant Hell

  • Just like any other area, Bur is situational here. However, it ends up being even more useless than other areas, as almost all Ant Hell mobs are decently weak by themselves and don't require Bur to be taken easily.
  • Unless you are able to deal a lot of DPS at once, using Bur on the Ant Hell bosses could detriment you, as other players will heavily benefit from the Armor debuff, deal more damage than normal while not letting you deal enough damage to loot the boss.

Sewers

  • Besides the return of Spiders from Garden, Bur's Sewers performance is heavily suppressed by the other three mobs: Flies, Moths and Roaches, each having special attributes that make Bur usage useless in this area:
    • Flies are pretty weak by themselves, however, their problematic characteristic is not their normal stats or Armor, instead, it's its Evasion chance, which is not able to be debuffed by Bur. It's better to either deal damage with normal petals or use the petal that also has an Evasion chance: Poker Chip.
    • Moths are also weak, however, if you hit them with any petal that deals damage (this includes Bur), they will run away from you. If that happens, the Armor debuff will not last long enough to justify that, as the possible detriments (having to catch up to the mob while aggroing Flies and Spiders, accidentally aggroing Roaches) are very harmful when trying to kill a Moth.
  • If you hit a Roach with Bur, you'll aggro it, causing it to very quickly speed onto you and deal a huge amount of damage to you at once, potentially killing you. As such, only use Bur on a Roach once it has already been crippled, and even then, other petals perform better as usual.

Trivia[]

  • Bur is inspired on the genus of biennial plants Arctium of the Asteraceae family. Said genus is commonly known as Burdock, which implies that the name Bur is short for Burdock. However, unlike other petals whose names have been shortened (for example, Bulb, from Light Bulb), the game never actually displays the name "Burdock". Instead, only "Bur" is shown.
  • Bur, Bone and Root are the only petals who work around the Armor statistic. More specifically, Bone has an Armor statistic itself, Bur decreases a mob's Armor statistic once it hits the mob and Root gives you an Armor statistic whenever you're in the defensive position.
    • Bur is the only petal to mess with other entities' Armor stat, and, consequently, the only petal to negatively do so.
  • Bur is tied with Air, Wax and Poo for shortest name ever, at 3 letters each.
