Compass is a petal from florr.io. It was released on January 6th, 2024. Its special ability is finding a Super mob nearby. Compass is dropped by Termite Overminds.

Appearance[]

Its appearance depicts a generic compass without North and South on it: it is a circle with a blue fill and a grey outline. It has two arrows representing a real-life compass' needles, colored white and red. Broken compasses have a grey fill and a large, light gray crack on the left.

Function[]

Petal Stats
Rarity Obtainable? Damage Health Respawn Is affected by Magnet? Broken?
Common No 1 40 2.5 + 16.0 seconds Yes Yes
Unusual No 3 120 2.5 + 14.0 seconds
Rare Through Multiple Assembles 9 360 2.5 + 12.0 seconds
Epic TMA 27 1,080 2.5 + 10.0 seconds
Legendary TMA 81 3,240 2.5 + 8.0 seconds
Mythic Though Assemble 243 9,720 2.5 + 6.0 seconds
Ultra Yes 729 29,160 2.5 + 4.0 seconds No
Super Yes 2,187 87,480 2.5 + 2.0 seconds No
Unique Yes 6,561 262440 2.5 seconds

The Compass' function is simple and obvious: it is that it can find and track the Super mob closest to you currently. However, Ultra Compasses will be attracted to Magnets if there are any nearby. Super and Unique Compasses are completely immune to Magnets.

Unique Compass can find Squares.

Magnets are prioritized first, with Super mobs prioritized below that, and Squares prioritized below that. Essentially Magnet > Supers > Squares.

Strategy[]

  • The Compass' ability can either be deemed useful or useless, depending on the context that is currently present when the Compass is on use:
    • By itself, Compass is an useful petal, as Super mobs can be quite unpredictable on their spawn places.
    • Multiple players getting Compass will make this pretty redundant when you can simply follow a single Compass user and proceed to Bubble around in the direction they're going, without using one yourself. However, you can simply use Compass alone, or with another group of people who might not have it (as it's very rare). Plus, at least one person will have to use Compass for this to work.
    • Reaching a Super mob quickly can lead to you getting loot, but in certain cases this could cause the mob to aggro on and kill you.
    • Using Compass, specially on areas closer to spawn, or with low rarity mobs, might not work, because many beginner or even intermediate/advanced players could use the Magnet to increase their petal pickup range. Compass' attraction to any close Magnets is prioritized over Super mobs. However, if you're in a Super hunting group, most of these willingly will just use the Magnetism Talent rather than the Magnet itself (not only because it's practical but also to not hurt any Compasses nearby). Another way to circumvent this is by using Super Compasses (however, they're very hard to get), since they're completely immune to Magnets.
  • Surprisingly, this petal is pretty tanky. This means that, while not reliable (or needed, as Compasses are not made to be used like your average petal), they can be used as support petals, specially at tanking projectiles or close mobs.
  • To use Compasses, check if any players around are using Magnet, while unequipping your own (only applies to Ultra Compasses). After that, feel free to use the Compass and track any spawned Super Mobs for a chance to get very good loot (as Super Mobs have a very good drop rate for not only Mythic but also Ultra petals).
  • This is best used on traveling builds which have Bubble, so you can go to the Super mob's current location faster.
  • Using the Compass like a normal petal will likely bring the same interactions as Corn. Similar strategies apply between each other, but keep in mind Corn's HP is ten times bigger than Compass' HP.

Garden

  • When you're not using this to track any Super mob, this can be a decent contender for tanking Ant Holes and their spawned Ants, Hornet missiles and/or low rarity mobs, always keeping in mind that there are better petals to use for those reasons.

Desert

  • Using Compass as intended here might bring you to a Super Beetle which can catch up to you and end you if you aren't cautious about your surroundings. Also make sure to not get surprised by any Cacti blocking the way or a loose Sandstorm.

Ocean

  • Using Compass as intended will have some cons: reaching Super Bubbles may be inefficient both because it's rapidly killed by Super hunters, reaching Super Leeches will result in them locking onto you, and reaching Super Shells will prove lethal once they start firing their Pearls.
  • It is not advised to use Compass as a normal petal here. Ultra+ Shells' Pearl projectiles will bypass or obliterate the Compass, while it's just not really needed against any other mobs here.

Ant Hell

  • Both using Compasses as intended and like an ordinary petal are equally as useless, not only for Termite Mounds, but also in Ant Hell and Fire Ant Hell. All of the Supers elegible for spawn are in determined places (Queen Ant/Queen Fire Ant chambers, or the Termite Mound itself).
  • However, on Termite Hell, it may still help localize loose Super Termite Overminds (though it may be hard for you to NOT see them, because they're extremely huge).
  • Even if Supers spawned at random places every time and the small space wasn't a problem, Ant Hell is populated with AFK people (specially near Ant Egg, Fire Ant Egg and Termite Egg zones) or just normal Egg farmers, who very commonly use Magnet to pick up distant drops without moving, possibly disrupting all chances Compasses had to be useful (although this can be avoided with a Super Compass, remember it's extremely rare).
    • Conversely, if you're about to farm for Eggs, they serve more utility as a random petal: attacking Eggs by themselves will be good with this.

Obtaining[]

  • Whether you have a Compass with you or not, going to Jungle/Termite Hell in hopes of finding Ultra/Super Termite Mounds and Termite Overminds will reward you with a Compass. However, be prepared to not get one at all: only Ultra and Super Compasses are obtainable, and only Ultra petals can be dropped by mobs, meaning you either have to kill multiple Ultra Termite Overminds for a 0.2% chance of getting them, or get lucky and be able to get loot from a Super one, with a very high (but still not guaranteed) chance of 64.3%. But also note that they are also greeded by other players who want Compass as well.
  • Remember that Termite Overminds are very tough and potentially dangerous, specially in Termite Mounds who are about to die by a time over, which will make you fight other Jungle mobs such as the Wasp, and the Overmind's Psyonic Connection will aggro all Termites on you.
  • On February 23rd 2025 the Factory dungeon was added. This update added the Assembler mob. Using the Mythic Assembler, (and Rare-Legendary Assemblers if you manage to get Fragments using 2 Cogs of the same rarity) you can obtain compasses between Rare and Ultra. The recipe for compass using the Assembler is Glass, Magnet and Fragment.
  • On February 24th 2025, the texture of the Rare-Mythic Compass was changed to resemble a greyed out version that has a cracked hole in the center. When viewing the petals description, red text below its stats displays "Broken."

Hel

Using[]

  • Using Compass to track Super mobs in Hel is highly unreliable. Not only is PvP enabled here, but also Super mobs are easy to find due to the small size of the map.
  • Ironically enough, this can be used to find players who use Magnet for a chance at killing them. Be sure to swap to an actual build when about to fight them, though.

Against[]

  • If you see a Compass user, you can try to befriend it instead. Letting them find a Super mob for you might be beneficial, specially if you can loot it, but beware, as Hel mobs in general are very dangerous.
  • When fighting a Compass user, don't let low durability petals such as Stinger hit the Compass, as Compass's high durability can easily tank these petals.

Jungle

  • Aside from being useful against Mantis projectiles and possibly Wasps, Compasses are useful here since the size of the map where Super Mobs spawn is pretty big. Make sure to unequip it once inside a Termite Mound, though.

Sewers

  • Contrary to Jungle, Sewers is a bad place to use it. All Super mobs spawn in a chamber where they're easily spotted (but not easily reachable, as usual). The best usage of this is gradually tanking Flies and Moths, as they're considerably weak and enough for Compasses to kill, sometimes.

Trivia[]

  • The Compass' stats were the same as Lotus. It used to be same as Basic when it was first released.
  • Broken Compasses do not point anywhere and are completely useless.
  • Due to the addition of the Assembler, Compass can be assembled by using Fragment, Magnet and Glass.
    • When Assembler was first released, it didn't require Glass.
  • Ever since the Ultra mob update went live, the Compass was nerfed in general usage, since it only can be pointed to Super mobs, as opposed to tracking both Ultra and Super mobs.
  • This, Corruption, Mimic, Golden Leaf and Moon Rock are the only petals that start at Ultra Rarity. They are also the rarest petals overall, as well as not being able to be dropped with a 100% chance at all.
  • It is one of the few petals that got added without any mentions in the Changelog.
  • Compass was the first petal that was released in the year 2024.
  • Compass shares the same color scheme from Safari, a search app made exclusively for Apple.
    • All of the said icons are both based on a compass.
  • Compass, Air, Corruption, Dahlia and Rose are tied for having the highest chance of being dropped as an Ultra petal, which is 64.3%.
    • All mentioned petals plus Missile, and Pollen are the only petals to have a higher chance to drop at Ultra rarity (64.3% for said petals, 58.4% for Missile and Pollen) than at Mythic rarity (35.7% for said petals minus Compass and Corruption, 41.6% for Missile and Pollen) by the Super rarity variation of the mob that drops this (Termite Overmind for Compass, Bubble for Air, Gambler for Corruption, Shiny Ladybug for Dahlia and Rose, Hel Wasp and Wasp for Missile and Bumble Bee for Pollen).
      • Compass and Corruption are unique in that case: they can't be dropped at Mythic rarity. However, since their drop chances at Ultra are 64.3% (above 50%), their theoretical Mythic drop chances would have to be lower than that in order to equal 100%, thus technically still fitting in that trivia.
    • In the case of the Compass, it's likely due to the fact that you could find Super mobs easier, and because Termite Overminds are rare, pretty tough and can aggro other Termites onto you.
  • Compass being attracted to Magnet is one of the the only four interactions in the game which are specific to only two petals, with the other ones being Clover boosting the chance of a critical hit from a Dice, Relic changing the hatched mobs from Ant Egg from |Soldier Ants to Soldier Termites, and Mecha Antennae allowing Mecha Missiles to track opponents. All other interactions involve a petal and general game mechanics (for example, Lotus being able to absorb poison damage from all poisonous petals, mobs and projectiles, or Dandelion nullifying healing petals).
    • This is also a reference for the real-life phenomenon known as magnetism. Magnets in real life are known for attracting metallic objects, and a real life compass' pointy needles are always made of metal (which is why they're attracted to the Earth's poles, although it's more of the eletro-magnetism phenomenon at this point), which will cause any compasses to show the localization of the closest magnet present in a certain radius, just like in-game. The eletro-magnetism phenomenon is also referenced in the Compass' primary ability.
      • The Compass points north in real life.
    • Ultra Compasses are attracted to your own Magnets. This is the only interaction where a petal from your loadout directly detriments another petal from your loadout. All other interactions either happen between a petal from your loadout and a petal from another one's loadout (for example, Lotus and poisonous petals) or are beneficial (Basil and healing petals).
  • The Compass (specifically the Super variation of it) first appeared in the Shop on January 28th, 2024.
    • This is the first petal to first appear as Super in the shop.
