The Dark Mark, also shortened in-game to Mark, is a petal in florr.io. When it finds a dead player nearby, it marks the same player and sends them to Hel after some time. The Mark is dropped by Hel Beetles, Hel Centipedes, Hel Spiders and Hel Wasps.

Appearance[]

The Mark appears to bear a dark red color with even darker borders. The shape of this petal is a pentagram: a five-pointed regular star with a regular pentagon in the star's central area.

Function[]

Note: The "A + B" respawn format means that the petal takes A seconds to respawn and B seconds after respawning to do its special action/have its special action enabled.

The Mark sends any dead player it touches to Hel after a while. The Mark affects dead players in Hel similar to how it would in other areas, sending the marked player back to Hel. Mark has an extra hidden mechanic in which it functions like Yggdrasil when the dead player is already in Hel, but instead of reviving the player, it teleports them to a random spot on the map and then revives them.

Players who got marked will be stuck in Hel for 5 minutes, means they can't go to other zones except Hel until timer expires. Unique Mark's location lock lasts for 1 hour.

Strategy[]

  • One must immediately notice that the Mark is not your ordinary petal: as it doesn't deal damage, it can only "tank" stuff (and it has very low health for that matter). Its only uses are for forcing dead players to leave, trolling and for helping other players go to Hel.
  • As it's different from your normal petal, it lacks proper strategies for itself. However, it still has its own set of strategies designed pretty much just for the Mark.

Marking[]

  • One intended way of using the Mark is seeing if anyone wants to go to Hel. This pretty much only happens once per player, as they cannot access Hel by themselves before they get Marked. Doing so will get an Achievement both for you and for the player sent to Hel.
  • The other, less intended way is using Mark instead of Yggdrasil pretty much anywhere. Many players after dying will expect to get revived with Yggdrasil to come back for combat, specially if the player just died to a Ultra or Super Mob fight so they can keep damaging the mob and potentially get very good loot. However, you can suddenly mark them with the Mark and suddenly send them to Hel, making them lose their drops. It's trolling and a very toxic activity so it's not encouraged here, but Ultra+ Marks are recommended for this as marks of earlier rarities take too long to send the dead player to Hel before a Yggdrasil user revives it.
    • One can stay on top of the marked player to try to prevent them from knowing you marked them.
  • The third way is to seek for dead flowers that is probably offline. Marking them is less toxic because they don’t literally lose anything since they are not playing. Doing this around the Target Dummy is recommended.
  • The fourth way is to Mark enemy players in Factory. However, this is kind of toxic too during Super mob fights.

Marked[]

  • This is the only way to initially go to Hel. Asking for some time to get Marked will turn into a free ticket to Hel, and afterwards you can join and leave this mysterious other plane at your will.
  • However, most of the time, you'll get marked against your will: instead of being properly revived with a Yggdrasil, you'll get Marked and possibly lose all of the chances you had looting the mob that killed you, and even having to go back to where you died.
    • You can know if someone Marked you if: they are on top of you (to try to hide the Mark), you notice something else on top of you (a Yggdrasil doesn't stay for too long before activating its ability) and noticing what petal the other player may bring to "revive" you: a dried leaf or a pentagram.
      • Mark is now rendered above other players, making it easier to tell if you have been marked, as players can no longer stand on top of your flower to hide the Mark.

Marked(but not yourself)[]

  • If your squad member got marked, the best way is to Yggdrasil that player, of course.
    • If you don’t have Yggdrasil, you can lead mobs to the Mark and let the mob destroy it.

Hel

Using[]

  • The Mark won't bring any value to either PvP or PvE, serving as an useless petal in this scenario.
  • This can be used as a Yggdrasil sort of petal, as people dead in Hel are already in Hel, they will simply get revived. This can help if you don't have Yggdrasil yet.

Against[]

  • This petal gives zero value in PvP. Killing a Mark user should be easy as you're essentially fighting a player with one less petal slot.
  • Other players can also revive you with the Mark in Hel.

Obtaining[]

  • All mobs that drop Mark are either hard to kill and/or have bad drop rates.
    • Hel Centipedes are the easiest to kill out of the 4 mobs that drop the Mark. However, their drop rates are the lowest in the game. This problem is mitigated by their multiple segments, although it still depends on luck.
    • Hel Spiders are the least complicated of the 3 mobs with good Mark drop rates. Bring in a Lotus with you if you have trouble with their poison, or Pincer if you have trouble with its speed.
    • Hel Wasps are slightly more complicated. Plank will help you on dealing with its missiles, and use Wing and other ranged petals to deal with the range problem.
    • Hel Beetles have high speed and can teleport to your location. Bringing glass petals like the Stinger to quickly deal with it is one of the best strategies.

Trivia[]

  • M28, upon release, gave everyone at spawn a temporary Mythic Mark and sent everyone to Hel, allowing people to obtain mark.
  • Mark in Hel can be destroyed by other players while on top of a player. Additionally, different players can mark the same person, with strange results.
  • Before Hel got added to the buttons on the title screen that allows quick teleportation to areas, the only way to go to Hel was for another player to use the Mark on you while you were dead.
  • The Mark and its users usually get the reputation of trollers because the Mark doesn't serve for anything other than to send players to Hel, whereas it usually happens on unwanted scenarios.
  • While Mark, Hel Beetle and Hel as a whole were added on the April Fools date, they stayed for longer (and are still in the game). This confirms that Hel and its additions were not April Fools additions.
  • The Mark had the longest ever respawn time, sitting at 960 seconds (plus one to activate its ability) at Common Rarity). However, an update switched the primary and the secondary cooldown timers (so Mark couldn't be affected by the Reload Talent anymore). Now, Ankh (longest at Common Rarity), Yggdrasil (also longest at Common Rarity although unreleased) and Moon Rock and Square (longest constant timers) have the longest cooldown. It still holds the record for the longest secondary cooldown.
  • Its initial design actually lacked the pentagon, so it was a star instead of a pentagram.
  • A change was made to Mark so that "marked" players will be trapped in Hel for 5 minutes (1 hour with Unique)
  • Hel Beetles drop this, while Mummy Beetles drop Ankh. Not only this is a parallel of "life and death" or "heaven and hell", this also indicates both Beetles and Hel Beetles literally carry some kind of essence of life and can also give birth/give life to anything else. This can be further proved that they can drop the Beetle Egg, which indicates the creation of life through the Egg (although this may just mean that both Beetles just give birth to infant Beetles, not everything else).
  • Mark at the Ultra Rarity is one of the two petals that have the lowest drop rate out of anything: it reaches a whopping 0.0002 (1/500,000) chance to be dropped from Ultra Hel Centipedes, alongside Mimic from Ultra Mecha Flower. Mark and the Hel Centipede also break two records: not only the mob drops Mark 5 rarities below the mob's rarity (Common Mark dropped by Legendary Hel Centipede, Unusual Mark dropped by Mythic Hel Centipede and Rare Mark dropped by Ultra Hel Centipede), the mob can also drop the most petal rarities at once: 5 petal rarities (Common-Legendary Mark for Legendary Hel Centipede, Unusual-Mythic Mark for Mythic Hel Centipede and Rare-Ultra Mark for Ultra Hel Centipede).
    • Those records most likely belong to the Mark and the Hel Centipede because the mob has multiple segments, and said segments each have individual drop rates, thus technically each drop rate shown in the table is 10 times more common. However, it is still dependant on RNG if it will happen or not.
      • If segmented drop rates are counted, technically the Moon Rock has the second rarest drop rate (0.001 chance to be dropped from a Rock Mob) compared to the technical 0.002 chance of an Ultra Mark being dropped by an Ultra Hel Centipede.
