The Hornet is an unusual, original mob in florr.io. They have the ability to shoot missiles at the player.

Appearance[]

An oval with black and yellow stripes and a dark yellow outline. It has two antennae at the front, which appear as slightly curved black lines. It also has a missile at the back.

Stats & Behavior[]

Speed: Slow when passive, Normal when aggressive.

Behavior: When firing at the player, hornets turn 180 degrees and fire the "missile" attached to their body.

Legendary+ Hornets can predict your movement and receive a firerate buff. Super Hornets have 2 additional special attacks. The first summons five Ultra Hornets. To indicate this attack, the Hornet will shake its antennae. The second makes the hornet move in a large clockwise circle, shooting large amounts of Ultra Hornet Missiles. To indicate this attack, the Hornet shakes its missile.

Strategy[]

  • Move in a circle around the hornet to avoid its missile but dont get to close to it cause the hornets missile can hit you that way too when they turn around.
  • if you find a swarm of hornets (2 or more) move to one side and after most of the hornets have fired, move in the opposite direction because if you have a particularly large swarm the hornets will likely block you off from circling them.
  • Hornets are one of the most annoying mobs in the game and a serious hazard to deal with. Their ranged attack means they can hurt you while still being at a safe distance from your petals. Certain petals are better than others at dealing with hornets, but generally, more range is better for Hornets.
  • Ironically, the Hornet's weapon, the Missile, is also one of the best counters, dealing high damage. Missiles rare+ will home in on nearby Hornets. Against swarms of Hornets, missiles will get quickly overwhelmed.
  • Wings are good for attacking hornets from a distance. However, their movement is somewhat unpredictable.
  • Peas and Grapes are good against swarms of low-rarity hornets, but they do not have enough DPS to take out high-rarity hornets. They are also hard to aim.
  • Eggs are one of the best petals to use against hornets: they allow the user to deal damage without aiming or getting too close. Against high-rarity hornets, weaker eggs won't make a dent in their health though. If you have an Ultra+ Beetle Egg, it can spawn a Mythic Beetle, which can serve as a shield against missiles.
    • Super Beetle Egg is even better, as the Ultra Beetle will most likely kill the Hornet and survive.
    • Sticks could have a similar function to eggs. However, the Sandstorms do not target mobs, making them less useful along with the petal's long reload. They can be useful when spammed along with teammates, but using this strategy would take lots of grinding. The Sandstorms can be used as shields.
  • Orange, Third Eye and Yin Yang can help you hit Hornets from far away.
  • Lightning can deal good damage against a swarm of Hornets.
  • Builds with lots of Tank-like petals such as Heavy, Rock, or Corn are a good idea to use by "boxing in" hornets or rushing at them with your petals. Just beware of their lengthy respawn, Hornets do a lot of damage to your petals.
  • Jelly can be used to deflect missiles.
  • Bubble can help you speed away from getting hit from a missile quickly.
  • If you're using close-range petals, move the opposite direction your petals are rotating around the hornet, to ensure maximum damage (in most cases, move counterclockwise). While dealing with normal hornets, circle around them and keep hitting them. Make sure to quickly deal with a hornet that is following the player, as the player has a high chance of being overwhelmed if there are many hornets following.
    • With Einstein hornets, move back and forth to dodge their missiles. Hornets pause for a split second between turning around and firing, so use this short window of time to your advantage.
  • It's important to keep ranged petals/eggs in your inventory in case you run into a swarm, where close ranged combat becomes extremely dangerous.
  • Deathwheel builds can overwhelm Hornets with sheer DPS, but only do this if you have a lot of health because the missiles will likely hit you.
  • You can also go behind a Centipede, making the Hornets stuck in the segments. Be careful not to hit Epic+ Centipedes.
  • Hitting a Hornet with an Iris petal will deal lots of damage, but it takes a few seconds.
  • Against high-rarity hornets, Leaves are superior to Roses and Dahlia. The Hornet's bulky missiles will shred apart your roses before they have a chance to heal you.
  • Spamming Salt petals can be a good idea if you have good healing petals to retaliate.
  • To escape hornet swarms, lay down some Webs to trap them. Then, equip a Powder or Bubble, or simply ride the knockback of the hornets' missiles away.
  • Hornets can't see you if you hide behind a wall. You can hide and kill them with summons
  • Surprisingly, Mythic+ Claw can serve as a shield for Mythic or below Hornets' missile as the extra damage works on missiles.
    • This feature make Planks useless as Mythic Plank could not destroy Mythic missile.
  • Don't be intimidated by Hornets: running away almost will never help. The more flowers run away, the more hornets will stack up, and with the help of other mobs such as Centipedes and Spiders, it will be extremely difficult to fight hornets by then.
  • In case you get overwhelmed by the insane amount of Hornets that spawn all throughout the garden, either try to kill them all, or make a run for where you are trying to go.
    • If you have a low level and are swarmed by Epic+ Hornets, it is just best to give up and die to them.
  • Hornets have a large weakness, they can only target one player at once. If you are in a small group, the rest of the group can attack the Hornet while you try not to die.
  • If you do face one alone, swerve around and avoid the missiles. This gets exponentially harder the more Hornets there are.
  • Using a high-rarity Wax can shield you from missiles.

Super Hornet[]

  • While Super Hornets are extremely dangerous, the various Ultra mobs that spawn in garden may be just as deadly as the Hornet itself. When bubbling to the mob, it is advised to use Sponge and multiple Ultra healing petals, and have a Lotus equipped in case a Spider hits you. It is also advised to use Sponge when actually fighting the mob so you don't die if anything hits you.
  • If the mob spawns deep in Garden, it is advised to form a "megasquad", where a large group of players stay near each other and clear mobs. This increases the chance for everyone to survive.
  • In most cases, players will lure Super Hornets to slightly easier areas because they are nearly impossible to kill while surrounded by Ultra mobs. This means that you do not need to rush into the center of the Spiral area to attack it.
  • Sponge is essentially required for this mob, as it can kill you quickly in many different ways. Also, using bubbles and burst damage, such as Stingers or Iris, will make fighting it less risky because you can attack it, then move away to heal.
  • Make sure that you observe the Hornet, as its attacks can be indicated by movements of its antennae or missile.
  • If the Hornet is targeting you, try to escape from it using bubbles or shovel. It is very difficult to land attacks while the hornet is shooting at you.
  • Try to stay on the left side of the Hornet. When it does its missile spin attack, it will always move clockwise, meaning that players on its right will be in danger of being hit by the Hornet's body. This attack can also be dodged with high rarity bubbles, but this is risky.
  • The Ultra Hornet missiles that are released during this attack are also dangerous, as they can pin you and deal heavy damage. It is advised to seek a large group of players, as they will be able to destroy the missiles before being hit. Alternatively, you can move out of the missiles' range using bubbles.
  • Almost directly after doing its missile spin attack, the Super Hornet will spawn five Ultra Hornets. These pose little threat to players in front of the Super Hornet, but they make it risky to attack the Super Hornet from the side.

Trivia[]

  • Around at the end of April 2024, Super Hornet now summons Ultra Mobs and shoots out Ultra Missiles as its special ability: this makes it impossible to kill alone and it requires a large crowd of players in order to kill it.
  • Hornet is the first mob added to the game to feature ranged attacks
  • On 24/2/20 (during Legacy florr), the hornet AI was improved so they could predict the movement of players, using calculus to predict where the player would go: these were referred to as Einstein hornets. This was done to prevent herding of Hornets. Later that day, most Hornets were changed back to normal, but a few hornets would spawn as Einstein Hornets. Epic+ Hornets are always Einstein Hornets, while Rare- Hornets are common Hornets.
  • The Hornet's attack and behavior are the complete opposite of its real life counterpart, as real-life hornets must get close to you to sting you whereas florr hornets keep their distance and fire extremely high recoil missiles that make it very hard to get near.
  • In early January 2023, the hornet's firing animation was changed. Hornets now turn around and shoot the missile on their back, making for hilarious moments when players get 180-ed by a hornet from across the screen. They used to face the enemy and shoot the missile before, but still getting recoil.
  • If you hit a Hornet's Missile, it only does damage to the Missile rather than the entire Hornet.
  • Hornets can shoot their missiles through walls and mobs.
  • On Jan 4th 2024, M28 updated the hornet's missile health: "Mobs missile health now scale like petal health instead of mob health. Their base health has been buffed to compensate".
  • In real life, Hornets love honey and steal them from honeybees but in florr.io they don’t get affected by Honey.
  • Hornets are SO annoying that people usually call them “stupid f***ing” or other swear words.
