Iris is a petal in florr.io. Its function consists of poisoning all mobs and flowers it hits, dealing immense damage over time. It deals 50% less damage against flowers and is dropped by Scorpions and Jungle Centipedes.

Appearance[]

The Iris petal consists of a small circle, smaller than the Basic and has the same size as the Light. However, instead of being white-colored, it wields a lavender purple color with a darker shade of it on its borders. Flowers hit by an Iris will turn lavender purple (same color as an Iris) and will frown, regardless if they are defending or not.

The Iris poisons any enemy that touches it. The enemy will take the amount of damage shown by the petal's poison stat. Despite only flashing every second, the poisoned entity will actually receive damage every tick. The poison effect does not stack, however, hitting a poisoned enemy again with Iris (or any other poisonous petal) prior to the previous poison debuff endeding will reset the poison value to either the current one or the one of the petal that hit it, whichever is higher. It will not add poison onto the pre-existing value.

Strategy[]

  • Irises are one of the petals with the highest damage output of pretty much any other petal, even higher than that of a singular Stinger, only being slightly outclassed by Tomato. However, the poison does not deal damage immediately, so therefore other petals have higher burst damage and functionality than the Iris. Furthermore, the Iris has low health and a high respawn timer (though 4 seconds still isn't too much), and even worse, the poison does not stack with itself, so it is further hindered. Iris is generally good against targets with high body damage, and DPS is maximized against multiple enemies, if it manages to hit between those without repeating on one mob before the poison wears off.
  • Try to use petals like the Heavy to protect your Iris from something that could destroy it before it gets to be used.
  • An advantage of Iris is that poison damage bypasses Armor, so while it may not deal damage by itself, it can still deal a lot of damage with its poison stat.
  • Iris can be used in tandem with Privet, so the poison effects lasts for a bit longer and may help you even more. However, Privet is very weak and unreliable, so this strategy is not recommended.
  • The Iris' major drawbacks are its stats and single-hit characteristic: Grapes can hit 4 targets at once and can be effectively crowd-control petals, Pincers, while having less poison damage, slow down enemies so they don't catch up to you easily, and Uranium can deal quite a lot of damage as well as being a crowd-control petal if the user outheals its self-damage.

Obtaining[]

  • Fending off Evil Centipedes is far easier than fending off Scorpions, not only due to their stats, but also specially due to the scenarios they are found: Desert has Beetles, Fire Ant Burrows and Sandstorms, while Jungle mobs can be mitigated if you are careful enough.
  • If you still want to get Irises from a Scorpion, be on the lookout for the many dangerous mobs here, use something like Plank to destroy its stingers (or avoid them yourself), try to tank its poison damage with Lotus and engage in close combat when you're sure it's safe to.

Garden

  • Landing an Iris onto an Ant Hole will slowly deal damage to it. Although this means Ants will gradually corner you and make you run, it is still better than a Stinger in this case which will go into a lengthy cooldown after dealing massive damage to the Ant Hole and spawning lots of Ants. Remember that the Iris can't deal with multiple Ants, nor can it fend off multiple Centipede segments.
  • Pincer should be used instead of Iris when fending off Bees, Bumble Bees and Spiders since they are quick and unpredictable, being able to catch you in no time if you don't take care.
  • Be sure to bring tanky petals or a Glass with you, since Dandelions may shield the Iris with its little Dandelions, while Hornet missiles can easily destroy it.

Desert

  • Irises are most effective against Beetles and Sandstorms here, since they will wear down those mobs and kill them before they do much harm to you. However, both of them can still surprise you, whether it's by quick speed or by strong body damage. Pincer is better against Beetles, while try to use Disc against Sandstorms or maintain a safe distance from them with Wings and the likes.
  • Its lack of AoE (Area of Effect) will severely hurt you against Desert Centipedes and Fire Ant Burrows, meaning you'll get overwhelmed very quickly if you don't replace this petal.

Ocean

  • The Iris works best against Crabs once they sprint onto your petal orbit radius, as they will be punished with poison damage once they try to ram you. This also does decent against Shells despite not being the best counter.
  • Lightning is a better counter to Leech while something like Missile is better against Jellyfish. Iris isn't a good pick in Ocean overall.

Ant Hell

  • On Ant Hell, Iris is a bad pick. There are far better choices such as Ant Egg or Glass to deal with the Ants there.
  • On Fire Ant Hell, Iris is a mildly decent pick. While still being heavily outclassed like in Ant Hell, at least it won't suffer much from the Fire Ants' double damage.
  • On Termite Hell and Termite Mounds, Iris is a decent pick. While still being weak, it will chip down multiple Termites due to their Psyonic Connection. There are still other far better choices, though, such as Grapes and Uranium themselves.

Hel

Using[]

  • Iris is one of the best petals in this zone, against both mobs and players, as its ability to deal damage over time allows you to hit an enemy and then move back to reload petals and heal.
  • Once an Iris lands a hit on another player, specially at Mythic+rarity, it will put the poisoned flower in severe risk, since it has the best poison stat out of all poisoning petals.
    • Combining Iris with a Mythic Dandelion will create one of the deadliest combos ever: The Dandelion reduces the effectiveness of an enemy's healing petals by 40% (20% for each Dandelion), allowing the Iris to strike and deal massive damage overtime while the poisoned enemy can't heal with maximum efficiency. Using Ultra+ Dandelions, specially one affected by the Duplicator Talent, will further cripple healing by 60% (no Duplicator), 80% (Duplicated)
  • A Mythic+ Iris by itself will most likely kill the poisoned enemy, as they're very strong and can quickly wear out any flowers poisoned. Privet may further secure your victory. If the opponent has a lot of Cacti or other petals that increase the opponent's survivability, hit them multiple times.
  • A Faster or Yin Yang makes the petal harder to destroy and more likely to land a hit.
  • Iris users should be careful of Salt users since attacking one will cause the attacker to take some damage too.
  • If the opponent is using Sponge, Iris is one of its best counters. Conversely, if the opponent is using Lotus, maybe you should try to change your Iris, or just exhaust the Lotus with poison overload.
  • Irises are very frail. Defend them accordingly with Heavy and the likes so your opponents don't take advantage of your weak spot.
  • The Iris is mildly good against Gamblers because they are close to being flowers (albeit AI-controlled). However, this struggles against any other mob, so you're better off using something else.

Against[]

  • Irises can be easily destroyed by pretty much any other petal in the game. Attack the Iris and use the hole as a way to damage its user.
  • Lotus can be used to mitigate poison damage, letting the petal take all poison damage instead of you. However, it can easily be exhausted, so do not fully rely on it.
  • Iris + Privet will barely do any harm to you.
  • If the opponent is running Dandelion + Iris builds, make sure to not get hit by the Dandelions (specially if there are 3 or 4 of them), as getting your healing crippled will greatly benefit the Iris and you won't be able to heal from the poison damage, specially if it's a Mythic+ Iris.
  • Make sure to not use Root against this, as any Armor stat is ignored.

Jungle

  • While no mobs here run faster than you, Pincer may still be favored over Iris. Grapes can also end up as a more reliable choice due to their AoE.
  • The Iris does shine against two instances: it may not deal base damage to Leafbugs, but its poison damage will bypass its Armor stat and deal a lot of damage to them anyways; on a Termite Mound, the Iris may deal a lot of damage to many Termites at once, however, be sure to not get cornered by them.

Sewers

  • Pincer gets the most ground over Iris due to Flies, Moths and Roaches as well as Spiders. Iris should almost never be considered on Sewers.

Trivia[]

  • Iris, Grapes, Pincer, Privet (technically) and Uranium are the only poisonous petals in the game.
    • Out of all of them, Iris has the strongest poison damage and the longest poison duration.
  • The Iris shares the same color code as the Grapes, and it can be argued that the latter petal (and all four of the smaller Grapes) is a bigger variation of the former.
  • On legacy florr.io, Irises were dropped at Unusual Rarity (like current Iris' first Rarity), from Beetles (and their Massive Variation), Evil Centipedes and Spiders. However, as of the World Map florr.io, Iris no longer drops from Beetles or Spiders (which is ironic as Spiders now deal poison damage), rather being dropped by Scorpions instead (since their stingers poison flowers). Evil Centipedes still get to drop Iris once they returned to the game.
  • Iris used to deal less poison damage: the first is 4.5x base damage, the second is 6x base damage, and the last one is the current.
