The Scorpion is a mob that spawns quite frequently in Desert.

Appearance[]

A brown, egg shaped mob with a dark brown outline. Four dark brown stripes can be found going sideways across its body not quite reaching the ends. It has six small black legs and two small black pincers in the front. A stinger of similar shape to the scorpion can be found near the end of its back. It is much smaller and only has two stripes. On its front end is a large black triangle.

When passive, it wanders around randomly, moving a few tiles forward before stopping and changing direction. When aggressive, Scorpions will move towards the player but won't immediately charge in. Common-Epic Scorpions will shoot their missile once, and then charge towards you at a much higher speed than even a Beetle. Legendary+ Scorpions can regain their missiles and therefore will keep shooting them at you (like a Hornet, but slower). If a missile hits you, it will inflict poison damage. The base damage along with the poison damage per second increases with higher rarities.

Spawning[]

Scorpions spawn in Desert commonly, like Beetles. Scorpions do not have their own spawning area but the frequency at which they spawn normally should be enough to grind them.

Strategy[]

  • Scorpions are stronger versions of Hornets, having more health with quicker missile speed and dealing poison damage to any flower the missile touches.
    • Due to this, scorpions are both hard to avoid and annoying so make sure you have good petals (see below) to help neutralize the scorpions.
    • Bringing another player or a squad can also help deal with scorpions due to the amount of DPS you could inflict on them.
    • Their missiles are a lot faster than Hornets' but they shoot less missiles. Scorpions shoot once every 5 seconds, so try counting before getting ready for the shot.
      • Like Hornets, Scorpions can predict where you will be when they shoot. So, try moving in the opposite direction from where you think it will shoot.
  • For lower concentrations of Scorpions, using high DPS builds that include Faster, Light and/or Sand can alone suffocate an attack.
    • For rarer scorpions, DPS alone will not kill it in time and the poison will mean almost certain death. It is essential that slowing petals are used such as Pincer or Web.
    • For high concentrations of scorpions, Web is essential since it can affect multiple mobs at once. Unlike Spiders, Scorpions are vulnerable to Webs. It is best to have one teammate spam webs while the rest use high DPS builds since the webs themselves can't deal damage.
  • If you're facing a single Ultra Scorpion, which is quite powerful, use a strategy good for ranged mobs: have one player keep its aggro while others attack it. For Scorpion, a healing build with Lotus is recommended if you're the one it's attacking. If you're alone, swerve back and forth so its missiles don't hit you.
  • Using Lotus is quite useful as it absorbs the poison damage, which can be lethal at higher rarities because of how broken Poison is.
  • Plank could also be used to destroy the missiles, but use at least two because Scorpions are very dangerous. It's hard to rely on your Planks to save you.

Trivia[]

  • This mob used to ram its enemy and deal poison. Now the Spider has this ability.
  • This mob and Spider are the only mobs that can deal poison damage.
  • Its missile can be destroyed before it is actually shot out.
  • While the Hornet and Wasp don’t get affected by Honey, Scorpion gets affected by it. Also unlike other mobs, it instead shoots its poison missiles trying to destroy the Honey, while the other mobs usually eat it.
