This page is about the petal. For the mob, see Sponge (Mob).

Sponge is a petal in florr.io. It absorbs damage and returns it to the flower slowly over time. It does not stack. It hovers over mobs instead of colliding with them, rendering it invincible.

Appearance[]

Similar to a cartoon style puff of smoke, but the inside is cream colored and the edge of it is dark cream.

Function[]

Petal Stats
Rarity Obtainable? Respawn Absorb Period (sec)
Common No 2.5 seconds 4.6
Unusual Yes 8.4
Rare 12.1
Epic 15.7
Legendary 19.2
Mythic 22.6
Ultra 25.9
Super 29.1
Unique 32.2

Absorbs all of the damage taken by the flower and then slowly returns the absorbed damage to the flower. For example, a flower gets hit by an Ultra Stinger: Instead of taking the huge amount of damage at once, the flower takes damage slowly (similar to an Iris's poison effect), until the flower dies or the absorption period runs out. If the petal is destroyed before that, all remaining damage it has absorbed is immediately dealt back to the flower.

Sponge is an extremely hard petal to grind, due to there being no frequent mythic sponge spawn area. However, after a update that adds all ultras, ultra sponge can spawn.

Strategy[]

It's best when combined with healing petals, as you will still take all the damage the sponge absorbs. If you use powerful, consistent heals, like Starfish, you will be pretty much invincible. These heals must be combined with a basil or more to increase the healing. Sponge can be used with second chance to survive ramming high damaging mobs multiple times. ram the mob firstas much as you can, then take off the sponge before second chance invulnerability runs out to change to a healing build. DO NOT use sponge with uranium, as it will have little effect on the self-damage of the uranium but deal massive damage to the user when taken off.

To maximize mythic starfish healing (calculated):

  • 4 basil
  • 6 starfish

Whenever you feel you are about to die use sponge, even though sponge got nerfed it can prevent you from getting instantly killed.

Even though sponge got nerfed, the current ultra sponge is really good(as strong as pre nerf mythic sponge) .

You can lure an enemy thats hard to defeat over to a portal, equip sponge, and when you start taking massive amounts of damage, go into the portal to negate damage, heal up on the other side, and fight the enemy again.

Garden[]

  • While using Roses + Leaves, you can take damage when the sponge absorbs. Best with weaker hornets.
  • Do not equip weaker sponges while with weaker healing to stronger mobs. as they will kill you in no time.
  • Petals with consistent, HP/s healing (e.g. Leaf, Yucca, Starfish) are best when paired with Sponge since its damage is spread out as DPS similar to an Iris's poison effect.

Desert[]

  • Same as Garden, Sponge is best when combined with healing petals.

Ocean[]

  • Sponge is okay against most of the Ocean mobs. The damage of the Crabs could cause problems without any good healing with this petals.
    • Sponge is actually quite good against Jellyfish since, while its attacks cannot be dodged, it deals lower damage that can easily be outhealed with the help of this petal.
  • Never use against Super Jellyfish as its new shockwave attack will oneshot the sponge (and all other petals) making it useless. (The absorbed damage will be dealt to you immediately)
  • Paired with Second Chance, when the player realises that the damage would cause eventual death even with the Sponge, it can be switched out. All damage will instantly be taken in, activating the talent and saves the player from any additional damage after the duration of Second Chance.

Ant Hell[]

  • Don’t use it against Super Termite Overmind because it can randomly disable your sponge, dealing all the damage it has back to you.

PvP[]

Using[]

  • Pair it with other healing petals to out heal pretty much everything. You can use it to survive Ultra Stingers.

Against[]

  • Sponge cannot delay poison damage, so use Iris to kill Sponge users easily.
  • Claw can eradicate sponge users (very useful), if victim is consistently over 80% health. A bunch of Fasters, Claws, and perhaps a Third Eyeplus some healing will do a great job in pvp.
  • Dice's critical hit will ignore the Sponge. They will receive the full damage output, rendering Sponge useless against it.
  • Moon paired with Bubbles can also take out a Sponge user, due to it's extremely high health. It can bubble towards that player and constantly keep ramming them, accelerating the damage they take, and eventually killing them.

Sponge is the solution to salt users. Sponge tank cannot be killed; 3 starfish 3 basil 2 rubber 2 sponge with mythic petals will never die to mythic petals.

This is actually not true prior to the massive salt nerf.

Trivia[]

  • When you get poisoned by mobs while using Lotus and Sponge, the lotus will also deal damage overtime, this also applies with rubber, where if you got lightning damage by mobs while using rubber, the rubber will also deal damage overtime, making the flower's health base immune to damage.
  • After the update in January 12, 2024, this petal doesn't have the stats of its durability, meaning that this petal is unbreakable.
    • After the changes, M28 didn't even bother to remove the second line of the description, making new players more confused.
      • This is actually referring to when you unequip the Sponge.
  • Sponge is one of several petals that drops from a mob of the same name. The others are Square, Bubble, Cactus, Dandelion, Rock, Shell, Starfish and Ant Egg.
  • At some point, people thought that sponges were useless, but they are not. They are useful for healing. If paired with Basils and Leaf/Yucca, then you're pretty much invincible (unless you ram into mobs with super high damage such as super cactus, for some reason)
  • On August 27th, 2024, Sponge was nerfed so that it no longer absorbs/delays Poison damage, probably to give more usage to Lotus.
